Scuttlers Cove (David Barnett)

Scuttler’s Cove by David Barnett is like the film Wicker Man meets I Know What You Did Last Summer, by way of heavy Lovecraft mythos. It’s a pulpy, sometimes cheesy, always fun summer read. Merrin Moon returns to her Cornish harbor village in her thirties after her mother’s sudden death, where she finds the area’s quaint cottages hollowed out by second-homers. Something terrible is stirring beneath the town’s hallowed ground, topped by an always-fruiting, mystical apple tree. You can taste the salt air, even if the dialogue is sometimes stilted and cliche.
